(Portage, WI) — Museum at the Portage: Vintage Theatre Costumes by Kos
Featuring 5 costumes designed by Januz (John Kos). He used them in his long career as a dancer beginning at the age of six in the city of Lublinia, Solvenia (formerly Yugoslavia). He danced classical ballet with that city’s opera at the age of 15. Ten years later he joined the Vienna Ballet Company. From there, his career as a dancer took him to many countries in the world. John is better known in Portage for his work as a nurse for many years at the Divine Savior Hospital and at the nursing home. He learned that profession as a youth in hospital service in Tito’s army in his native land. Coming to the United States in 1956, he learned the language, continued in ballet and used his medical knowledge to support himself and to be helpful to others.
