While Watching British Mysteries on Netflix, part 1
This is the first in my series of small knitted scarf projects called “While Watching British Mysteries on Netflix.” My husband and I have a jolly good time following our favorite characters while they inspect, suspect and drive around the countryside in ancient Jaguars. We take breaks for ice cream, letting the dog in or out and stitch markers that have just abandoned themselves deep into the cushions. With a cat heater on his lap and knitting on mine, we’re ready for the next “whodunit?”
Finishing Option:
This scarf is neat and trim, meant to be tucked into a collar. The pattern can be knit with any super chunky yarn. The baby alpaca is fabulous around the neck and close to skin. On your second to last row of seed stitch border, work pattern stitch for 4 stitches, cast off 9 stitches and work the last 4 stitches. On the next row, work the 4 stitches, do an e-wrap cast on for 9 stitches and work the remaining 4 stitches. You’ve just created an opening to thread the other end of the scarf when it’s done. It’s a nice option to looping the scarf over. A shawl pin would look very nice on this scarf, too. I finished the pattern before I remembered to do this! It must have been because of the tense, adrenaline filled British mystery I was compelled to watch!

Color: Your choice
Size 11 or 13 needle-depending on how tightly you knit or the amount of drape you want in the fabric
Overall dimensions are 48” by 3-4 inches. The scarf gets a little longer and narrower with wear (as you loop and tie it).
Seed Stitch:
Row 1: K1, P1, repeat til last stitch, K1
Row 2: Purl the knit stitches and knit the purl stitches. Repeat these two rows
1 X 1 Twist Rib:
Row 1: Knit 1 through the back loop (K1 tbl), purl 1, K 1 tbl, purl 1, repeat ending row with K1 tbl.
Row 2: Knit all knit st(s) tbl and purl all purl st(s).
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until your scarf is about 44” long.
Directions:
Cast on 17 stitches and work in Seed Stitch for 4-6 inches or desired length. My scarf is slightly asymmetrical for fun, but that’s optional.
Begin working 1X1 Twist Rib for 40 inches.
Switch back to seed stitch and work until yarn is used up.
Weave in ends.
