Miikanan Gallery

Native American Art Gallery at Watermark Art Center

Watermark is pleased to announce the forming of a Native American gallery as part of the art center’s expansion, slated to open in the fall of 2017. The Miikanan Gallery will welcome and promote contemporary and traditional work of Indigenous artists by providing ongoing exhibitions, retail opportunities and educational events for the region.

“A significant feature of the Watermark Art Center’s current expansion, the Miikanan Gallery is part of a commitment to honor the creative diversity of the region. Located in between three of our Ojibwe reservations, Bemidji is an ideal location for a much needed space dedicated to Indigenous art activities. A committed group of people, both Native and non-Native, have met for the last three years to develop the purpose and foundation values for this gallery. With the vision and mission currently in place we will now begin the process of establishing a calendar of events that will be initiated in Fall 2017.  As we wait for the completion of the facilities remodel, we will be reaching out to local Indigenous artists. We are looking for artists of all creative expressions to sign up for our contact list. We are still working to complete our capital campaign and will be seeking support from Indigenous artists who will be recognized on our artist circle donors’ wall.  Please join us in this important development that will help to enrich and transform the creative landscape of our region.”
