5638_RFRobin’s vibrant personality is evident in her work. Each fabric sculpted doll she makes, each bird that looks ready to take flight, comes into being with its own personality released from Robin’s imagination. It doesn’t hurt that Robin’s textile stash is global. When she buys fabric on her travels, she likes the color palette to reflect the location. For example, Robin collected batik when she and her family lived in Indonesia. Place and its unique souvenir connect Robin’s life experiences with her art in tangible ways.

Her sunny studio is a perch is on the 2nd floor of an old building that boasts an iconic 1800’s style store front in downtown Cedarburg, WI. Big windows, old wood floors, brick trim and tin ceilings, the place is a dream come true for an artist’s muse. A big work table, brightly painted walls and the daily melange of doll body parts, patterns, tools and bit and bobs of jewelry give a feeling that magic can happen here.

Dividing her work into two camps—fiber and jewelry, Robin has developed a series of dolls she calls Gentle Women and Gentle Ladies. Gentle Women are full figured and made from fabric usually with eccentric hair! Gentle Ladies wear dresses and jewelry. Their faces are painted and they look like delightful conversationalists! Also using fabric, Robin creates realistic looking birds that have moveable parts so they stand and can be easily attached to something to look as if they are flying.

Lately Robin is working in paper mache to make relief sculpture. Here are a few shots of her new work in the form of birds and faces.
Robin is a founding member of the Cedarburg Spur Fiber Arts Trail.
