Let’s talk about mixed media, hard surfaces and an award winning art gallery. The featured artists are Laura Weber of Weber Arts and The Pink Llama Gallery in downtown Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

5914_LW_webLaura Weber‘s basketry studio is tucked  inside The Pink Llama. North facing windows give the studio space an ethereal light. Tall shelves filled with basket making supplies and tools line the east wall. Plants sit on the big shelf underneath the large north windows. Laura’s work table is completely clear waiting for her next project. Laura’s work space is calm and organized, much like Laura herself. Laura learned basketmaking in the 1990’s but didn’t commit to creating baskets as art until 2012 when the proverbial empty nest set in. She credits the vibrant, supportive arts community of Cedarburg for providing opportunities and inspiration for her basketry and mixed media work.

PinkLlamaThe Pink Llama Gallerylocated on the busiest corner in downtown Cedarburg, is thriving! Recently awarded the ‘Best Milwaukee Area Art Gallery’ by WISN-2’s AList poll of area voters, the gallery hosts a variety of art from local and regional artists, accessories and other fun stuff.  Tammie Strause, proprietor, laughingly refers to her title as ‘Head Llama’. Tammie curates in-store exhibits, artfully displaying the affordable, handmade one-of-a-kind pieces throughout her sunny, bright gallery. You can find most mediums and the selection will always be very selective! Here’s a small grouping of snapshots I took when visiting the gallery in January, 2015. Please note that the gallery is busy and what you see in this image is an example of art and fine craft–the pieces may already be sold.
