Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival features international felt maker Kiyoshi Mino

It’s exciting to share opportunities to learn more about needle arts. Coming up in September, the Wisconsin Sheep & Wool Festival is offering many excellent class options to further explore your creativity. The festival is September 7 – 9, 2018 in Jefferson, Wisconsin. This year, the headline teacher is Kiyoshi Mino. Kiyoshi has an interesting background, not one that predict his love of making felt sculpture, but the excellence in his work displays his passion for the art.

In early November, I spoke with Lori Forshee-Donnay, Watermark’s Executive Director, and she shared the excitement of five years of hard work starting with organizational mission statement and identity work, outreach to underserved members of the area’s arts communities, wonderful support and long hours by many volunteers and committee members and, finally, the generosity of area residents and donors who embrace a new arts center in downtown Bemidji. All this culminates in a brand-new building with four galleries and a start on a new generation of arts programming for the region.

Our theme for the 2018 annual weekend event on the Threaded Streams Fiber Arts Trail is ‘experience your own creativity’. Char and Mariella, sisters who co-own Helen’s Daughters, are not teaching sewing technique classes (sewing is the primary method of making their handbags) but they are teaching the subject matter of how to run a fiber arts business.
